The World Of Readership – by Siddhartha Behl
The 20th edition of the New Delhi World Book was held at the Pragati Maidan. Inaugurated on the 25th of February, 2012 by the Union minister for Human Resources& development, Mr. Kapil Sibal, it continued on till the 4th of March This book fair is the biggest Book fair held in the country ever and the second largest in the world this year.
The theme of the 2012 World Book Fair this time is the Indian Cinema as it has completed 100 years since it first came into being. Because of this most of the publishers at the fair are promoting books on Bollywood, like biographies of some legendary actors, musicians, lyricists and even have audio books narrated by people from the Indian Film Industry. The broader purpose of the Book Fair however was to bridge the gap between authors, publishers, booksellers and the readers and to promote literature in India. There were several authors who were coming and visiting on different days, giving a chance of literature enthusiasts, to meet them face to face.
The fair also lent support to a humanitarian cause by donating 1 Re for each book that was sold at the Fair, to the Indian Cancer Society. The tickets of the Book Fair were nominal with 20 Rs for adults and 10 Rs for children. Indians from different parts of the country, foreigners and school children, were all part of it.
